The Mataró TecnoCampus celebrated the first edition of the Scientific Research and Innovation Conference PECT-Mataró Maresme: Ecosistema de les Ciutats Cuidadores last November 9, and in which more than 350 professionals from the health field gathered.

The event, which had the objective of being a meeting point between researchers, students, companies and professionals in the field of care, served to present the research in the social and health area that the various research groups have been carrying out within the framework of the Territorial Specialization and Competitiveness Projects (PECT), as well as the research of other scientific groups in the territory. In addition, it made it possible to publicize the new CareCityLab, the reference center for the development of innovations in the Maresme region.

This event included the intervention of David Bote, mayor of Mataró and president of the TecnoCampus Foundation; Ramon Maspons, Director of the Strategy and Innovation Area of ??the Department of Health of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Dr. Marco Inzitari, executive director of Transformation of Intermediate Care of the Department of Health and Catalan Health Service of the Generalitat of Catalonia and Director of Research at the Pere Virgili Health Park; Rafael Martínez Leal, coordinator of the Intellectual Disability and Developmental Disorders Research Unit of Fundació Villablanca; and Mikel Izquierdo, professor in the Department of Health Sciences of the Public University of Navarra.

The speakers pointed out the importance of technological development and innovations that are taking place within the health sector and the importance of putting the patient at the center of medical practice.

“The technological innovations and knowledge within the field of healthcare, which is presented at this event, should help transform the patient care system. This capacity for change must focus on accompanying people throughout their lives,” says David Bote.

This event, carried out thanks to the collaboration and financing of the Generalitat of Catalonia, is promoted by TecnoCampus, the Mataró City Council, the Maresme Health Consortium (CSdM), the Maresme Foundation, EURECAT and the Hospital Foundation.

The first edition of the Scientific Conference on Research and Innovation PECT-Mataró Maresme included more than 80 presentations on the state of the health system in the Maresme region and throughout Catalonia.

The presentations were organized into four blocks oriented to very diverse issues within the social and health field, such as “Clinical, basic or epidemiological research”, “Research in the social field”, “Research in physical exercise, nutrition and health” and “Innovation”.

In addition to the research presentations, the event also held a technology fair in which various associations and companies presented their services and innovations, an interaction workshop between research groups, a speed-dating workshop between high school students and scientists, a doctoral thesis competition, a round table on people assisted and participants in research projects and a conference given by Dr. Jaume Padrós, President of the Barcelona College of Physicians and by Dr. Joan Sala, President of the Academy of Sciences Medical and Health of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands on “The impact of research, innovation and citizen science on the prevention and care of diseases.”

The most notable event of this scientific day was the presentation of the CareCityLab project, which is part of the Caring City program undertaken by the Mataró City Council.

The objective of this new infrastructure is to become a reference space in care for people in situations of fragility and dependency and their caregivers; by promoting research, transfer and innovation to improve people’s quality of life.

“This European project has the desire to create an ecosystem that allows us to expand, improve and enhance attention to the needs of people who care for others, in such a way that they can improve the treatment of those who need it,” concludes the mayor. .
