A Texas family from Troy is missing after their boat capsized off the coast of Homer, Alaska, during a family vacation. The family, consisting of David and Mary Maynard and their two young sons, has not been found after their 28-foot aluminum boat overturned with a total of eight people on board on Saturday evening, approximately 16 miles west of Homer, according to the U.S. Coast Guard District 17 Alaska.

Despite search and rescue efforts, the USCG suspended the search after 24 hours passed without any signs of the Maynard family. The decision to halt the search was made after careful consideration of various factors, including environmental conditions and search operations, as stated in a press release shared with Fox News Digital by a USCG spokesperson.

In addition to the USCG, Alaska State Troopers and multiple good Samaritan vessel crews also participated in the search efforts. Homer Harbormaster Matt Clarke reported that a Good Samaritan boat named the Salty Sea rescued four individuals on a life raft who had been on the capsized boat. The USCG conducted a grid search of the area where the boat sank to aid in the search efforts.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the Maynard family to help cover unexpected expenses as they remain missing. The fundraising page describes the Maynards as a “sweet family of four” who were lost at sea during their Alaskan vacation. The family friend who created the page mentioned that Mary’s parents are still in Alaska, hoping for the safe return of their loved ones.

The GoFundMe page highlights the impact the Maynards had on those around them, from the joy they brought to the love and family-oriented connection they shared. The community has been asked to come together in support by offering prayers and donations to assist with the family’s sudden financial needs.

The void left by the Maynard family is described as indescribable, but the hope is that through unity as a family and community, their importance and impact will be acknowledged. Despite efforts to reach the Coast Guard 17th District of Alaska for further information, they were unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
