Shuttered Trump Plaza may be torn down, report says

ATLANTIC CITY — Almost two years after it closed, the shuttered Trump Plaza may come down for good, The Press of Atlantic City is reporting.

A team of professionals has been at the site to evaluate whether demolishing the facility is possible, the report said.

Trump Plaza first opened in May 1984 and closed permanently in September 2014.

It was the fourth Atlantic City casino to close its doors that year and left more than 1,000 people out of work.

The facility had 614 rooms, seven restaurants, a showroom and a 60,000 square foot casino on about 2.6 acres next to Caesars.

Trump Entertainment Resorts filed a deed restriction in 2015, preventing it from being used as a casino for at least 10 years. The application stated the facility could have been used for a different purpose.

It’s another shift in the changing landscape of the Atlantic City Boardwalk.

Two weeks ago, the Trump name was removed from the old Trump Taj Mahal.

The casino closed its doors for good in October 2016.
