Revolut opens a digital hub in Barcelona

Yesterday Revolut inaugurated a digital hub in Barcelona, ??the first that this British group has decided to open in the world.

Specialized in digital finance, Revolut has chosen the Catalan city after verifying its global attractiveness and the availability of technological talent.

The financial entity landed in Spain in 2022 and, since then, began hiring personnel in Madrid and Barcelona. “Without looking for it, the Barcelona office managed to attract more technological talent, and that is why we have decided to take the step and establish it as a technological center,” commented Ignacio Zunzunegui, general director of the business in Spain.

The center, which is located in the offices of the Aticco company in Eixample Dret, employs around 300 people that the company has been recruiting in the last two years.

Although the workforce exceeds 300 people, the company has only rented space for 130 people, since its policy contemplates remote work 100% of the time of the day. Álex Codina, the person in charge of the center, commented that the offices will be a meeting point where meetings can be held and give the possibility of working in person for those who prefer it.

With the inauguration of this digital center, Revolut has begun this morning its commitment to opening technological hubs in the world. To date, the company has operated through its headquarters in London and commercial offices in different cities around the world. In fact, in Madrid, the company employs 350 more people.

Codina explained that the forecast is to double the number of employees in Barcelona, ??since the company is growing a lot in recent months. In Spain, Revolut has exceeded three million users and has a penetration rate of 7%, especially attracting customers from generation Z and millennials with its online service offering.

The next steps for Revolut, which has a turnover of around 1 billion euros annually, are to grow in Spain by incorporating the Bizum service, as well as launching credit, insurance and lifestyle services. “We were born as a company specialized in currency exchange and now we want to become a super app that goes beyond payments,” commented David Tirado, partner and vice president of the entity.
