The automobile manufacturer Porsche will donate almost one million euros, a total of €911,000, to three charities after taking part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and thanks to the ‘Racing for Charity’ charity initiative.
Specifically, the initiative consisted of donating €750 for each lap completed in the mythical race by the three Porsche 963 of the official team. In total they did 733 laps, and since it also coincided with the 75th anniversary of Porsche sports cars, the manufacturer increased the final donation from 549,750 to 911,000 euros.
The three charities that will receive, between them, the almost one million euros are Kinderherzen retten e.V. and Interplast Germany e.V., who will each receive €350,000 to be used “to help children in crisis and developing countries who have heart disease, injuries, deformities or burns”, with the remaining €211,000 going to the Porsche Ferry Foundation. This was explained by the German manufacturer itself in a statement.
Michael Steiner, member of the Board of Management of Porsche AG as head of Research and Development, said that the company “has always stood up to its social responsibilities as a company.”
“We are confident that our support of the three charities underscores that motorsport and people are a fundamental part of our DNA,” he added. “At Porsche, social responsibility does not end at the factory gates. It goes much further,” he concluded.
For their part, the three organizations that received the total of 911,000 euros also thanked Porsche for the gesture and were honored to have been selected for the ‘Racing for Charity’ project.
In addition, the day before the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the organizer of the event, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO), awarded ‘Racing for Charity’ the Award for Sustainable Endurance.
Porsche said in the statement that it is committed “to various aid initiatives that concern five major areas: sport, culture, environment and social affairs, education and science.” “During 2022, more than 150 sponsorship projects were supported around the world. In this way, Porsche is helping to shape the future of society and set benchmarks,” concluded the German manufacturer.
