Police: 3 Men Shoot at Officers During Attempted Robbery

Three men were arrested by the police in Fort Lauderdale after they allegedly shot at officers during a traffic stop. The suspects have been identified as Robert Lee Earl Scott, 20, Myron Sinclair, 23, and Devontay Drake Mayes, 20. According to authorities, the men had attempted an armed robbery just before opening fire on the officers. Charges of attempted robbery, attempted murder, and fleeing and eluding have been filed against them, with the possibility of more charges in the future.

The incident took place at approximately 2:15 p.m. when police were trying to stop a suspicious vehicle in the 1000 block of Northwest 3rd Avenue. Multiple suspects exited the vehicle and started shooting at the officers. Fortunately, no one was injured in the gunfire, and the officers did not shoot back. After a brief pursuit, the vehicle came to a stop in the 1600 block of Sunrise Boulevard, where the three suspects were apprehended.

Due to the police activity, the westbound lanes of Sunrise Boulevard were temporarily closed near the 1600 block. An alternate route using Northwest 9th Avenue was advised. Additionally, a crash occurred involving a police car and another vehicle at Northwest 6th Street and Northwest 9th Avenue during the incident. Two officers were taken to Broward Health Medical Center for evaluation as a precaution, but they were expected to recover.
