Traveling by bicycle is an experience that always remains to be remembered. Visiting new areas, exploring towns, trying new flavors and admiring landscapes, an authentic adventure on wheels.

On this occasion we are talking about Pirinexus, a 353-kilometre circular cycle route that runs along both sides of the Pyrenees. It can be done both on a mountain bike and on gravel, and in their respective bikepacking modalities, a discipline that fits perfectly with the philosophy of the circuit.

During the itinerary the paths of Vies Verdes are combined, together with other cycle paths and secondary roads. As a whole, it becomes an entertaining journey, away from traffic and perfect for discovering the territory.

The Pirinexus is located mainly in the province of Girona, although it also advances on French soil for about 60 kilometers. The exchange of culture and language is an added attraction.

The number of stages can be defined according to the physical condition and the demanding capacity of each person. In any case, the Consorci de les Vies Verdes de Girona does not recommend covering more than 60 kilometers per day, as long as you can enjoy all the complementary offer: nature, leisure, culture, gastronomy…

The highest point and the main mountain challenge is the Coll d’Ares, which is crowned at 1,513 meters of altitude. This port rises at the end of the Vall de Camprodon and is one of the two border sections, along with the pass through Jonquera.

Despite the fact that the itinerary is marked in both directions, it is recommended to do it in a clockwise direction, returning through the coastal area. In this way, the Tramontana, a very common northwest wind in the area, will be a help and not an obstacle.

Despite not being classified as a Via Verda, since in some cases the road is shared with motorized vehicles, it is an excellent option to spend a few days on the bike and discover the easternmost part of the Pyrenees. Without a doubt, a highly recommended experience.
