In a world where there is more and more environmental awareness and well-being policies are more established in cities, there is still some misgiving about changing the organization of the main axes in large cities.
Paris has dared to do it in 2020 and the result three years later is very satisfactory. In the French capital, they dared to prohibit private cars on Rue du Rivoli, located next to the Seine River and connecting such emblematic monuments as the Louvre, the Arc de Triomphe or the Place de la Concorde, and the decision has only made improve space.
From the three lanes that Rue du Rivoli previously had, all dedicated to conventional traffic, there were two exclusive lanes for bicycles and a third usable for buses, taxis or emergency vehicles.
Did Paris collapse? Absolutely. Now one of the busiest tourist hubs of the city of light is in enviable health compared to other major European streets. The annoying pollution has vanished from the area and in its place thousands of cyclists replace it every day.
