Olot woke up today with the bad news of the unexpected death, at the age of 68, of Ramón Alentorn, one of those people who leave their mark through their involvement in collective life.
Alentorn, with a family tradition in the textile business and which became a distributor of major brands in the sector, with special mention to Fred Perry, generously and enthusiastically devoted itself to social and sports activities with special mention to the Unió Esportiva Olot.
His great passion was always bullfighting, which is not surprising if we take into account that Olot is one of the oldest bullrings in Spain and is still standing, with all its history behind it.
A bullfighting passion that caused disagreements with the administration and certain social sectors of the capital of La Garrotxa but which he maintained firmly and enthusiastically until an end as sudden as it was painful for those of us who shared so many bullfighting afternoons with him at La Monumental in Barcelona and, also , you fight for the return of bullfighting to Catalonia.
Including the petition with the legal support of the FTL, five years ago, to the Olot City Council to give bulls in its bullring because the arena is in a position to do so and the Law allows it. So far, without success.
Altruistically, Ramón Alentorn also helped the bullfighter from Olot, Joaquím Xoy El Nardo, an institution in Olot, who died a few years ago, and bullfighter Abel Robles, who fought several times in La Monumental, also in Las Ventas and other bullrings.
If El Nardo was composed of the paso doble Olot, it has a bullfighter, Ramón Alentorn, at the time of goodbye, deserves an emotional olé.
