New Renault Captur: total metamorphosis for the French bestseller produced in Spain

Pioneer and reference in its category, the qualities that the Renault Captur has treasured since its launch in 2013, 10 years ago, explain its commercial success: more than 2 million units sold in 90 countries around the world, all of them manufactured in the Valladolid plant of the French manufacturer.

This B-segment SUV made in Spain enhances its versatility, modularity and E-Tech full hybrid technology in the new generation, presented today as a world premiere through a digital press conference led by Fabrice Cambolive, CEO of the Renault brand, Paula Fabregat, Design Project Director, and Bruno Vanel, Product Performance Director.

The new generation, which remains compact on the outside (4.23 m) while livable on the inside, is at home both in the city and outside of it. Its elevated driving position remains a highly appreciated aspect, allowing easy access to the vehicle and good visibility of the road. For its part, the exterior image incorporates the brand’s new design language initiated by Gilles Vidal, Renault Design Director. This new style, characterized by strong lines and precise details, plays with light and materials to create a more attractive and dynamic look.

Among the most distinctive elements of its new aesthetic is a completely renewed front. The striking grille, the new carefully integrated Renault logo, and a higher and more horizontal bonnet give it a more elegant presence and greater status. On the upper part of the grill, the reliefs of various shapes combined with the contrast between the glossy black background and the transparency of the trim create a striking play of light.

And to cool the engine, the front has two horizontal air intakes separated by a central slat. For their part, the two intakes on the sides of the front, together with the daytime running lights, perform an aerodynamic function and also cool the front brakes.

The new headlights create a new light signature incorporating full LED technology as standard on all trim levels. As on the Clio, the vertical half-diamond shape of the daytime running lights is inspired by the brand’s logo while the headlights come to life in a new welcome light sequence when the doors are unlocked remotely. At the rear, the lights are now transparent and reveal their interior. This stylistic choice, combined with the new logo and the redesigned diffuser, gives the rear a more modern appearance and greater perceived quality.

The feeling of superior category that comes from the exterior is repeated inside. The openR link multimedia system with integrated Google and the new dashboard screens (up to 10.25 inches) modernize the cabin. Additionally, on-board technology with Android Automotive 12, a world first in the B segment, provides cutting-edge connectivity.

In the center of the center console, the new 10.4-inch vertical touch screen allows you to enjoy exclusive content and numerous services such as Google Maps, Google Assistant and more than 50 apps on Google Play. Likewise, safety is at the highest level, with state-of-the-art driving aids that include predictive hybrid driving and the Active Driver Assist system (combines the intelligent adaptive cruise control with the Stop system).

The cargo capacity of the new Captur is among the largest in the segment, with a maximum volume of 616 liters when the rear seats are fully forward (a gain of 132 liters). The modularity of its trunk, with a rear bench that slides by 16 cm and a removable floor to create a flat loading area, makes it possible that when the rear seats are folded down (2/3-1/3), the loading length reaches 1.57 m and the total capacity increases to 1,516 liters.

As for the range of the new Captur, which will go on sale in Europe in the coming weeks, the offer in Spain will have five engines. Among them, the E-Tech full hybrid technology stands out, which offers the best relationship between performance and consumption on the market, achieving ranges of more than 1,000 km with a single tank of gasoline. It is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine combined with two electric motors that produce 145 HP with 205 Nm of torque. Managed by an intelligent multi-mode gearbox, this propulsion package certifies a consumption of 4.7-4.9 l/100 km.

There are three gasoline options: the first is a 1.0 TCE 3-cylinder and 90 HP with 160 Nm of torque and associated with a manual gearbox whose approved average is 5.8 – 5.9 l/100 km. It is followed by two mild hybrid 1.3 TCE variants with 140 and 160 HP and 260 or 270 Nm of torque, respectively. The first will have a 6-speed manual transmission and the second with an automatic EDC box. Both achieve the same efficiency record: 5.8 – 5.9 l/100 km.

Finally, an LPG variant will be offered: 1.0 TCE turbo with 100 HP and 160 Nm of torque (170 Nm in LPG) based on the three-cylinder engine adapted for bifuel: gasoline and LPG. It will have a six-speed manual gearbox and its consumption data is 6.0 – 6.1 l/100 km with gasoline and 7.7 – 7.9 l/100 km with LPG.
