A new Ford SUV Coupe has been spotted on test ahead of its global debut. The upcoming Ford Capri EV will be built on the VW MEB platform, which is also used in the ID.4 and ID.5 models. Ford and VW entered into a joint venture for EVs back in 2020 to expand their electric vehicle lineup in Europe. The powertrain options for the Ford Capri are likely to mirror those offered in the European Ford Explorer electric SUV, with a single motor setup producing 282 hp and a dual-motor variant delivering 335 hp. The single motor model is expected to have a 77-kWh battery pack, while the dual-motor version will feature a 79-kWh battery. The performance figures indicate that the RWD variant can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, while the AWD model can achieve the same speed in 5.3 seconds. The estimated range is 570 km for the single motor and 529 km for the dual-motor version, with the ability to add approximately 172 km in just 10 minutes with a fast charger.
The Ford Capri name has a rich history, having been used by Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury models over several decades. In Europe, the Capri was a popular coupe model from 1969 to 1986, known as the European version of the Ford Mustang.
