The ITV (Technical Vehicle Inspection) is a mandatory process in Spain. Through this procedure, it is verified if the car meets the minimum safety and emissions requirements established by law. These types of inspections are carried out within fixed facilities and located in certain places. In Spain it is estimated that there are 400 ITV stations throughout our geography, a very varied number that facilitates access for all drivers.

However, it may be the case that a driver cannot go to one of the fixed ITV facilities. For example, and beyond the fact that the destination is far away for the owner, there are vehicles whose particular characteristics face traditional ITV, such as tractors, trailers and other agricultural equipment. Motorcycles, for example, must also pass the ITV, and there are other vehicles whose mobility on public roads is limited.

That is why there are mobile ITV calls, an extra service offered by fixed ITV facilities. For example, the company TÜV SÜD offers mobile stations dedicated to the inspection of mopeds, agricultural tractors, self-propelled agricultural machinery, trailers, special vehicles for works and services, etc.

The request for the service of a mobile ITV is practically the same as that of a fixed ITV. The interested party confirms the availability of the service in the specific company and the corresponding appointment is requested. Then, the place of the appointment is specified, which, on occasions, can even be the client’s own door, and the pertinent inspection is carried out.

The price of the mobile ITV service may vary depending on the autonomous community in which you reside, exactly the same case as in the fixed ITV. Likewise, the fixed ITV has also begun to use the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) to carry out random checks on Spanish roads. These random checks include checking the lights, headlights, steering, suspension. If the DGT found some type of anomaly in the vehicle, it could be immobilized and the driver fined. The amount of the fine is usually around 200 euros, but the amount may increase depending on the seriousness of the vehicle failure.

So if you have any type of vehicle like the ones mentioned above or are thinking of buying one, you already know which ITV you should go to in order to save yourself inconvenience.
