McDonald's is being pressured by an investor to change its pork buying process

Two new nominees have been announced by McDonald’s, confirmed Sunday by the fast-food chain.

Icahn is trying to address the fact that many McDonald’s pork suppliers keep pregnant pigs in small cages. McDonald’s pledged a decade ago that it would stop using pork from such crates from its suppliers.

Fast food giant McDonald’s stated Sunday that it plans to source 85 to 90 percent of its U.S. pork products from pigs not kept in gestation crates during pregnancy.

The nominees of Icahn will be up for election at McDonald’s annual meeting in 2022, the company announced.

This move is in line with investor-led board shakeups. Exxon’s board was dissolved last year after investors pressured it to address climate change.
