From May 22 to 26, the Madrid motor show returns, renamed Madrid Car Experience. This biennial event, which alternates every year with Automobile Barcelona, ??has not been held since 2018: the 2020 edition was canceled due to the covid-19 pandemic and the 2022 edition due to the microchip crisis that affected production and vehicle supply.
So far, the organization has confirmed the presence of 28 brands, among which Tesla, Seat, Cupra, Ford, Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover, the companies of the Stellantis group (Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Fiat, Abarth, Jeep, Opel and Alfa Romeo), the majority of Japanese brands that sell cars in Spain (Honda, Nissan, Mazda and Lexus), two major Korean brands (Hyundai and Kia) and several Chinese companies (BYD, MG, Omoda and Kngloo).
The list of the most important brands shows that the show will have large absences. The most relevant correspond to the Volkswagen and Renault groups. As we have indicated before, the former will only participate with its two Spanish brands, so there will be no Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda or its luxury brands such as Porsche or Bentley. The diamond brand and its associates, Dacia and Alpine, are also down. Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Mini, Mitsubishi, Subaru and Toyota will also not have an exhibitor.
Despite these absences, visitors to the Madrid Car Experience will be able to see interesting automotive novelties. The most relevant is the Tesla electric pick-up, which for the first time is shown in Spain within the framework of the Cybertruck Odyssey European tour, which will also take it to other cities in our country.
BYD will take advantage of its presence at the event to present two new models for the Spanish market for the first time: the BYD Seal U DM-i, the brand’s first plug-in hybrid for the European market, and the new Tang, a 100% electric E SUV 7 seats with all-wheel drive.
Omoda, for its part, will showcase the Omoda 5 EV. This participation in the show occurs several weeks after the Chinese company Chery signs an agreement with Ebro – also present at the Madrid fair – to produce some of its models in the former Nissan plant in the Barcelona Free Trade Zone.
Along with these new features, Peugeot will show its new complete range of new generation vehicles and Opel will present the electrified range of the Corsa, in addition to the Opel Astra ST Electric. Lexus, for its part, will showcase the NX Overtrail, the front-wheel drive RZ and the exclusive LBX Match Point Special Series.
Nissan will offer an experience that will allow the public to test the brand’s entire crossover range. Among its products is the new Qashqai, presented physically for the first time.
For its part, MG, the British brand reborn from the Chinese manufacturer SAIC, will show the MG3 Hybrid, a self-rechargeable hybrid vehicle in a compact format that has a powerful design and innovative technology.
Visitors will not only be able to see the new products from the exhibiting companies, but they will also be able to try a wide variety of these models. Likewise, they will enjoy a wide gastronomic and leisure offer.
Tickets are on sale in advance at a price of 9 euros (11 without promotion) on the event website. Sales at the box office will cost 14.50 euros. Admission is free for children under 12 years of age and people with a disability of more than 33% will have free access. The schedule is from 11 in the morning and 8:30 in the afternoon.
