Luis Moya, former co-pilot of Carlos Sainz: “these are the two keys to driving at night”

Luis Moya, double World Rally Champion as Carlos Sainz’s co-driver, is currently a Volkswagen ambassador. The Galician, who is a great communicator and expert in the world of motors, actively participates in the Volkswagen Driving Experience driving courses, in which he transmits his knowledge and emphasizes the importance of safe driving.

The extensive range of courses offered by the Volkswagen Driving School has launched the pioneering night driving course, aimed at improving driver training and helping to reduce accidents during hours of less light.

The data does not lie: “34% of the accidents with victims that were recorded in Spain during 2022 occurred during the night, dusk or dawn,” says Luis Moya. The Volkswagen ambassador also recalls that “these accidents caused 43% of the deaths, which confirms the greater severity of the accidents recorded during night driving.”

Luis Moya has presented the Volkswagen Driving Experience night course together with the Marketing Director of VW Spain, Albert García. Common sense prevails in his advice, but it is important to always keep them in mind when driving at night. “Awareness and training are the best tools… It is necessary to adapt driving to conditions of limited visibility; Given the reduction in the field of vision, attention and anticipation are key.”

Another important factor for driving safely at night is the vehicle itself. Luis Moya highlights that “technological innovation in automobiles has been key in reducing traffic accidents. “Driving assistance assistants or intelligent lighting systems allow for safer driving.”

Although there is high awareness about this section, the Volkswagen ambassador also warns “about the danger posed by certain behaviors behind the wheel and the risk of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”

Volkswagen Driving Experience has been training Spanish drivers for more than two decades. It has a powerful team of instructors and the support of Luis Moya, offering a personalized range of courses, adapted to the needs of users. Since 2003, more than 36,000 drivers have improved their driving at this school.
