Last days for recipients of non-contributory pensions, such as retirees or people with disabilities, to request help of 525 euros to pay this year’s rent. The supplement is processed through social services or Imserso.
The aid was established more than a decade ago. In the last year, 23,453 pensioners received it, for an amount of 12 million euros, a stable figure in recent years, with a recent peak of 26,736 in 2016.
To access aid, a series of requirements must be met at the time of application. One, have a non-contributory Social Security retirement or disability pension recognized on the date of the request; nor own a home; be the owner of the rental contract; not be married or have a stable union and cohabitation similar to a conjugal one, nor be related up to the third degree with the landlord of the home; and have the habitual residence established in a rented home, with the contract for more than one year.
They will have to have lived in the rented home for at least 180 days before applying.
If the pensioner shares a home with other people with a non-contributory pension, only the contract holder is entitled to the supplement. If there are several owners, the first.
Interested parties must make the request through the competent bodies of the autonomous communities that have transferred the functions and services of Imserso, through their social services and policies offices. In Ceuta and Melilla it is carried out directly by this organization.
The procedure can be done in person or online. The list of centers in which to carry out the procedure can be consulted on the Imserso portal, through this link. For the majority of the autonomies there is an application form for the managing bodies.
The procedure can also be completed electronically. As an example, in the case of Catalonia it can be requested online through Gencat; in Madrid through the Community’s electronic headquarters; or in Andalusia in the Ministry of Social Inclusion.
For Ceuta and Melilla the form is different. In your case, it can be processed online through the Imserso portal.
Among the documents requested in the process are a photocopy of the rental contract or the updated registry to guarantee habitual residence in the home.
The resolution of the files must occur within a maximum of 3 months from their entry in the registry. The payment is made in a single payment of 525 euros.
