According to the Italian website the Wine News, the French luksuskoncern Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton has been in negotiations with Castello Banfi in the now 8 months of a takeover. LVMH owns, among other Champagne brands Krug and Dom Pérignon, Bordeaux châteaux Cheval Blanc and Château d’yquem, Cloudy Bay in New Zealand, whisky brands Ardbeg and Glenmorangie, Belvedere vodka and Hennessy Cognac.

If LVMH would end up with to buy Banfi, it would further cement the importance of the Brunello wines of Montalcino on the international scene.

Castello Banfi is a family-owned vineyard located in the Montalcini in Tuscany. They have a larger vineyard area of approx. 960 acres spread over three vineyards. Since the founding of the americans John and Harry Mariani in 1978, Castello Banfi has become recognized the world over for its dedication to quality, and as one of the primary contributors to the renaissance of Italian wine has experienced. Today the company produces also wine in the Maremma, Bolgheri, Chianti, Chianti Classico and Piedmont.
