Kia reveals details of the EV5, EV3 and EV4, its commitment to sustainable mobility

Kia explained at the beginning of the year that it plans to launch 15 new electric models by 2027. And that in 2030 it intends to become the world’s number one brand in electrified vehicles. This is without a doubt an extremely ambitious objective. To achieve this and confirm the planned plans, the brand has recently presented three new electric models: the EV5 and the EV3 and EV4 prototypes. Automobiles, all of them with 0 emissions, that will join the EV6 and the newcomer EV9. By the way, the EV9 is La Vanguardia’s brand new Moveo 2023 Car of the Year and about which we have talked extensively on this channel.

Be that as it may, the Asian firm’s objective is to achieve annual sales of one million electric vehicles by 2026 and, in 2030, reach 1.6 million units per year. Kia’s strategy is to offer models with prices between 28,000 and 76,000 euros, which cover a wide range of needs. This strategy includes the launch of smaller electric vehicles, such as the EV3, EV4 and EV5 models, with the intention of accelerating – and at the same time popularizing – the incorporation of electric vehicles in different markets.

The EV6’s little brother, the EV5, will arrive in 2024. This new 100% electric compact SUV will be sold first in China, and will later reach the European market. Built on Hyundai Motor Group’s e-GMP platform, the new EV5 is equipped with Kia’s most advanced technology in connectivity, automation and electric propulsion systems.

The “United Opposites” design language is the starting point of a philosophy marked by straight, vertical and horizontal lines. It stands out for its front headlights and integrated plastic protections. The use of recycled materials is another of the main keys to the finishes of the EV5. The cabin concept is in line with the EV6, as well as the recently marketed EV9. A dual-screen system allows you to enjoy a digital, permanently connected driving position.

The EV5 range will be structured in different trim levels and engines. The use of the e-GMP architecture makes it possible to configure rear-wheel drive versions with a single motor (always more affordable) and all-wheel drive versions with two motors, one on each axle.

Kia has announced that the standard version, equipped with a 64 kWh battery, will have an approved range of 530 km. And the extended range model, with an 88 kWh battery, is expected to have a range of 720 km per charge. Those are really excellent numbers. The long-range AWD (all-wheel drive) version will have an 88 kWh battery and a combined power of 230 kW, with a 160 kW motor in the front wheels and a 70 kW motor in the rear wheels. With this AWD version, the range planned by Kia reaches 650 km.

In addition, the EV5 will offer fast charging technology and in just 27 minutes it will be able to go from 30 to 80% of its battery capacity. On the other hand, the EV5 battery has been designed to work effectively in all four seasons of the year, even in extreme hot and cold conditions. An advanced heat pump system, already used in the EV6, has been incorporated into the EV5 to manage temperature.

It will also offer a regenerative braking system and the i-Pedal device that allows the driver to brake and accelerate using a single pedal, which minimizes fatigue and increases driving comfort, mainly in the city.

To make life on board comfortable and connected to the outside, Kia has created a bright and technological cabin for the driver and passengers. Thus, the interior of the car is equipped with the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit infotainment system and supports online software updates. The Panoramic Wide Display consists of two elements: a 12.3-inch screen for the instrumentation and a 12.3-inch screen for the infotainment system. In addition to a 5-inch one for air conditioning.

This configuration provides the driver with complete information and content for a functional and engaging driving experience. Obviously, Kia has not communicated the price of the EV5 for the Spanish market, but, it seems, it could be around 40,000 euros (without official aid) in the most affordable version. In short, Kia faces the total electrification of the brand, an exciting challenge that is based on its good work, advanced technology and the design of cars that are widely accepted by European users. Which is not little.

For its part, the EV3, still in the prototype phase, is Kia’s vision of a compact electric SUV that combines functionality with driving pleasure. It will be an EV9, but small, with all the technology and connectivity used in the large family SUV. The future EV3 will combine a robust body with a dynamic silhouette and the avant-garde design of a cabin that promotes emotional well-being.

And with the EV4, in turn, Kia redefines the electric sedan. This advanced prototype represents the purity of the “power of progress” premise. That is, an approach that encourages the creation of innovative products, which transcend the establishment of new standards for the design of individual vehicles and completely redefine their segment. The innovation of the EV4 is also reflected in the format of its four-door body. Or in its interior, which presents an elegant and spacious horizontal layout, with elements that give priority to the driver’s activity without obstructing his vision.

Kia designers have placed an air conditioning control panel that can be neatly hidden in the center console when not needed, and applied spike-style air vents that offer flexibility in orienting them, among other interior design refinements.
