Galicia has launched its own Renove plan. The Xunta de Galicia has implemented an ambitious financial aid program for the acquisition of a new vehicle. The ‘Renew your vehicle’ plan will be in force until September 30 and provides aid of up to 4,000 euros (4,600 euros for large families) for the purchase of a new car with any type of propulsion technology.

It is an initiative promoted by the Xunta de Galicia, in collaboration with the Faconauto dealer association, to modernize the community’s automobile fleet. Its objective is to scrap up to 1,200 cars that are more than 10 years old and replace them with other new, more efficient vehicles.

The program came into force on January 17 and will be active until September 30, as long as the three million euros of funds with which the plan is provided are not exhausted.

Passenger cars and vans, whether electrified or combustion engine, as long as CO2 emissions do not exceed 125 g/km (passenger cars) and 185 g/km (vans). The maximum price of these vehicles is 42,000 euros, which is extended to 47,000 euros for electric vehicles with a range of more than 30 km in electric mode.

Both natural persons with habitual residence in Galicia and legally constituted companies and self-employed entrepreneurs with registered offices or a work center in Galicia can benefit from the subsidies.

In addition to complying with what is stated in the two previous points, in order to access the subsidy it is an essential requirement to scrap a vehicle that is more than 10 years old.

Yes. Individuals may only purchase a single vehicle; Companies or self-employed people will be able to buy a maximum of ten cars.

The amount of aid ranges from 3,000 to 4,000 euros, although in the case of large families it will be between 3,600 and 4,600 euros, depending on the type of vehicle. In all cases, the concessionaires contribute 1,000 euros of the total amount of the subsidy; The rest is provided by the Xunta de Galicia.

Directly at the dealerships, at the time of formalizing the purchase of the vehicle. Within a period of three months, the Xunta resolves the file and, if all the requirements are met, pays the corresponding subsidy amount.

The average age of the vehicle fleet in Galicia is 15.4 years, that is, 1.5 years more than the Spanish average (13.9 years). By province, Ourense has the oldest park in the community, with an average of 16.9 years, followed by Lugo and Pontevedra, both with 15.7 years. In the province of La Coruña, the average age of the park is 14.7 years, also above the average for Spain.

The Moves plan, promoted by the Government, is an aid program to encourage the acquisition of an electric, plug-in hybrid and fuel cell vehicle. On the other hand, the Renueva plan of the Xunta de Galicia includes cars of any type of propulsion. Another difference between both plans is that Moves offers the option of scrapping a vehicle and in the Renew your vehicle plan it is essential to do so.
