The management of Iberia and the unions CCOO, UGT and USO have ended the meeting held this afternoon without an agreement on the conditions of the workers, thus maintaining the strike called in the handling service of Iberia Airport Service, dedicated to providing ground services, for this weekend.

The protest in this service, in which 4,000 people work, will take place on January 5, 6, 7 and 8, coinciding with the Three Kings’ holiday and the return operation of the Christmas holidays.

The deputy secretary general of USO Air Sector, Isabel Rubio, explains after the meeting that “the company has not made any proposal and has limited itself to providing information on the profitability of the service.” According to her, there will be no more meetings, so the strike continues.

Iberia, for its part, regrets the lack of agreement with the unions calling for the strike and assures that “the mere call has already caused enormous harm to thousands of people who are seeing their trips altered.” The strike, he affirms, “has no justification.”

The background to this conflict is Aena’s handling contract for Spanish airports, which Iberia has lost and which has caused a clash between the infrastructure operator and the airline.

Iberia assures that, in any case, “all jobs, as well as salary conditions and social benefits, are guaranteed by the V Sector Agreement in all subrogation processes.” “There is neither job destruction nor job elimination,” she says.

The strike has already forced Iberia, Iberia Express and Air Nostrum to cancel more than 400 flights, affecting more than 45,000 passengers. The company says it has already found accommodation for 92% of them, either by relocating them to other flights, dates or times, or by refunding their tickets.
