Hunted at 204 km/h with his SUV: "€600 fine for those who drive a car of almost 200,000 is derisory"

New recklessness at the wheel. On this occasion, it took place in Navarra and was shared by the Provincial Police itself on their social networks. This is a 34-year-old driver from Logroño, who on February 27 was caught driving his powerful SUV at 204 km/h on the A12 highway.

If from the outset this speeding corresponds to a very serious infraction, there is also the aggravating circumstance that it does so in adverse weather conditions. And it is that, as can be seen in the radar photo shared by the aforementioned body on Twitter, at that time it was snowing, which reduces the visibility of the environment and worsens the adhesion of the vehicle to the asphalt.

As advised by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), in these weather circumstances extreme caution must be exercised. To do this, it is necessary to drive smoothly -without accelerating or braking or sudden turns-, reduce the pace of march and increase the safety distance with respect to the preceding vehicle.

The negligent behavior of the driver in question here has led to a fine of 600 euros and the deduction of 6 points from the license. Some users of the social network consider that the financial penalty is too low, but they do not say so because of the seriousness of the conduct, but rather because they assume that a person who drives an expensive vehicle has a lot of money and paying this amount is not a deterrent to them. to avoid doing so again in the future.

In this case, the car is a Mercedes-Benz G-class, a benchmark SUV within the reach of few pockets (in fact, Cristiano Ronaldo himself received a copy as a gift for his 35th birthday). We do not know which version it is, but the cheapest variant of the current range costs from around 137,600 euros (not counting optional equipment).

“How long will this system of sanctions? The fines should be in relation to the income of each one… €600 of a fine for someone who drives a car of almost 200,000 is derisory”, pointed out one of the comments. In this same sense, other users pointed out that “If you have money to buy that great car, what are 600 euros?” or “€600? Goes!! That is spent every time the car starts” (in clear reference to the high fuel consumption recorded by copies of this type).

As indicated in a comment on the publication, “in Switzerland and Finland this sanction system is used on your declared income level.” And on the Moveo channel we have already talked about him. It is a system of progressive fines, the amount of which varies depending on the offender’s income. So who else earns, more pays. And it is that it is not the same to pay a fine of 500 euros to a mileurista than to a very high class person.

In Spain, the fine is established based on the seriousness of the offence: minor ones carry up to 100 euros without withdrawal of points; the serious ones, 200 euros and, on occasions, removal of points; and the very serious, 500 euros with withdrawal of points. These economic amounts can be increased depending on the seriousness and consequences of the facts, but they will never be increased based on the driver’s income.

According to data from the DGT, fines for driving too fast start at a minimum of 100 euros without loss of points and increase depending on speeding: the maximum is 600 euros and 6 points, which is the penalty that you have received. placed on the offender of the Mercedes-Benz G-class.
