Before putting our hands behind the wheel in a car, it is necessary to make sure that we have in our possession the mandatory documentation required by law to be able to drive on Spanish roads. There are three unavoidable documents that we must carry in order when we travel by car: the circulation permit, the Vehicle Technical Inspection Card (ITV) and the driver’s license. Both the circulation permit and the ITV card are credentials that identify the vehicle and certify that it is in correct condition to be able to drive on the road. For its part, the driver’s license is a nominative and non-transferable document of each driver that grants permission to drive for a period of time and in a specific type of vehicle.

If you have lost your driving license, it has been stolen or you have even modified your personal data, you can request a duplicate license without leaving home through the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT).

In addition to being able to request the duplicate of the license online, you can also request it by telephone through the telephone number 060 or by going in person at any office of the Traffic Department.

If what you need is to renew your driving license because it is about to expire, go to a Driver Recognition Center authorized by the DGT. In them you will have a medical examination that certifies that you can renew your driving license. Keep in mind that you can renew your license from 3 months before its expiration date and that at the time it expires you will not be able to drive.
