Subaru presents the new Crosstrek, the replacement for the model that until now we knew as XV. The Japanese brand, a true specialist in all-wheel drive cars, thoroughly renews an SUV whose first generation arrived in 2012.
We are talking about a car, the XV, which has earned a reputation as a robust and reliable SUV and of which 2.2 million units have been sold worldwide. Now the third generation arrives, with the name Crosstrek, after in 2020 Subaru incorporated a hybrid engine designed with its own technology.
Subaru has poured all its know-how into the new Crosstrek, a versatile car with great off-road capability. And it has done so without forgetting functionality, an important characteristic in this type of SUV type car. And it has not left aside consumption and emissions, key aspects in all cars currently marketed in the European Union.
The dimensions of the Crosstrek do not change much compared to the previous XV. It measures 4.49 meters in length, while its width and height remain at 1.80 and 1.60 meters, respectively. The wheelbase is 2.67 meters.
The ground clearance, important for driving on unpaved tracks, is 22 centimeters, and the different angles to overcome slopes or obstacles show that we are facing a vehicle that is well prepared for difficulties.
It sports a new grille with new headlights with LED technology and the bumpers gain volume, a sensation to which the plastic side protections also contribute. The wheels can be 17 or 18 inches and there are three new body colors: Sun Blaze Pearl, Oasis Blue and Offshore Blue Metallic.
If the size is very suitable for daily and family use, the trunk is satisfied with 315 liters, a capacity below that of the competition.
The Crosstrek can be purchased in our market only with a 136 HP hybrid engine. This is the well-known 2.0 four-cylinder gasoline boxer, supported by another 16.7 HP electric motor. This new hybrid SUV can travel about 1.6 kilometers in fully electric mode, at a maximum speed of 40 km/h. The electrical system battery is 0.57 kWh.
In total there are 136 HP, with a maximum speed of 198 km/h and an acceleration of 10.8 seconds to reach 100 km/h. Good features, without a doubt, more than enough for a family car, suitable for adventure, but which is not sporty nor does the brand intend to be.
And it stands out, as is tradition, for its permanent all-wheel drive, with operation that can be adapted through the different driving modes that Subaru integrates into the X-Mode concept. It also influences the response of the engine and transmission.
The gearbox is continuously variable, with a function that imitates the operation of a conventional seven-speed automatic transmission. But it remains just that, an imitation. On the other hand, it incorporates a reduction gear that enables it for delicate traction situations.
The average consumption approved by Subaru is 7.7 liters per 100 kilometers, while emissions are 147 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
The Crosstrek incorporates the set of driving aids and safety systems called EyeSight, standard on all versions.
This suite of driving aids has been improved with new software and cameras and sensors have been added to achieve a wider field of vision.
Among the devices, the automatic emergency braking in the city capable of recognizing bicycles and pedestrians, the vehicle detection in the blind spot, the alert for fatigue or lack of attention of the driver or lane maintenance stand out.
In the driving position, the dashboard screen is 11.6 inches and is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with wireless connection.
The available finishes are Active, Field and Touring and the standard equipment common to all versions includes the elements: rear view camera, parking sensors, LED headlights, 17-inch wheels, multifunction steering wheel, USB type A connection and C or 11.6-inch multimedia screen.
The Subaru Crosstrek Active costs 32,000 euros, the Crosstrek Field, 34,000 euros, and the Crosstrek Touring, 37,000 euros.
But the Japanese brand offers the possibility of purchasing it through Santander Consumer from 29,500 euros financed. In addition, there is the possibility of multi-option purchase (48 months with a maximum of 10,000 km) with a monthly payment of 220 euros (with a down payment of 9,500 euros). Or also a renting of 569 euros per month (fee without VAT).
