Since leaving football, David Beckham has become a businessman. And beyond the world that surrounds football and fashion, since 2021, the former captain of the English team is a shareholder of Lunaz Design, a company specialized in electromobility.
Among other business units, Lunaz is dedicated to converting classic cars into electric ones (retrofit). As an example, the Jaguar XK140 that Beckham gave to his son as a wedding gift. The truth is that in this line, the company has just presented a Bentley Continental S2, from 1961, restored and powered by electricity.
Bentley is one of the most prestigious car brands in the United Kingdom. Between 1959 and 1962 it made the Continental S2, a variant of only 388 units of the Bentley S2. Highly prized and prized by collectors, this vehicle was equipped with a powerful 6.2-litre V8 developed in conjunction with Rolls-Royce.
To the detriment of the most purists, Lunaz was in charge of restoring it completely and replacing its gasoline engine with a 100% electric one, achieving a job worth telling in detail.
The first step was to carry out a millimeter 3D scan to create a digital model and thus be able to corroborate the feasibility of the project. The employees of David Beckham’s company studied every centimeter, respecting almost to the letter the external figure of the car.
Once the first stage was achieved, Lunaz was in charge of completely disassembling it in order to restore the deteriorated parts, while those that could not be rescued were again manufactured with similar materials.
For its part, the engine-box assembly was removed, reconditioned and preserved, since both those responsible for Lunaz and the owner of the vehicle agreed that it is “a piece of automotive history”.
In its place was placed an electric drive with 299 kW of power (equivalent to 400 hp) and 719 Nm of maximum torque that allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds. And to further improve its behavior they mounted adaptive dampers and a regenerative braking system with six-piston brake calipers on the front wheels and four on the rear.
Lunaz also reached into the interior, which was fully restored using sustainable materials. For example, the leather upholstery was tanned with naturally fallen olive leaves, the wood used for the front panel was obtained under the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certificate and the carpets were produced with a fiber 100% recycled nylon and plastic bottles.
In Lunaz they affirm that this transformation, whose value has not been revealed, will allow its owner to use it daily at a really low cost and without any type of restriction by low emission area.
