A man from California has been convicted by a jury for sending his teenage son to rob and kill Philadelphia rapper PnB Rock during a confrontation at a Los Angeles restaurant. The man, Freddie Trone, was found guilty of murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, and two counts of second-degree robbery related to the incident involving the rapper and his girlfriend.
Another defendant, Tremont Jones, was also convicted of two counts of second-degree robbery and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery, but was not charged with murder. The jury deliberated for less than three hours before reaching a verdict. Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón stated that justice has been served for Mr. Allen and his family who have suffered greatly due to the senseless violence.
Both Trone and Jones are set to be sentenced on August 27. Trone’s 17-year-old son, who was involved in the crime, is being dealt with in juvenile court to determine his competency to stand trial. Trone’s wife, Shauntel Trone, has pleaded no contest to being an accessory after the fact and is awaiting sentencing in January.
The incident occurred at Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘N Waffles in South L.A. where PnB Rock and his girlfriend were dining. The motive behind the robbery was to steal approximately half a million dollars worth of jewelry from the rapper. Jones reportedly gathered information about the jewelry the rapper was wearing and passed it on to Trone, who then orchestrated the robbery.
Rapper PnB Rock, whose real name was Rakim Allen, was shot multiple times in the back and chest during the robbery. The suspect fled the scene in a getaway car. Stephanie Sibounheuang, Allen’s girlfriend and mother of their children, witnessed the tragic event.
Trone was identified as the driver of the getaway vehicle, while the teen shooter was on probation at the time of the shooting. Despite the evidence presented during the trial, Trone maintained his innocence by denying any involvement in the crime. His defense attorney argued that the teen acted independently of his father and that there was no concrete evidence proving Trone’s guilt.
