The Chinese manufacturer BYD announced a few days ago that it would launch a series of “high-end luxury” models starting this year. And he has kept his promise. The multinational has just presented its Yangwang U9 electric sports car, one of the most powerful on the market, which seeks to compete with Ferrari and Lamborghini.
For now, this vehicle will only be sold in China, as explained by the company through its social networks. And he did not give dates for its arrival in the European or American market, where the company has established itself as the main manufacturer of electric vehicles, even surpassing Tesla.
The Yangwang U9 will have four TZ220XYAK electric motors, which will give the vehicle a power that has nothing to envy of the models from Ferrari and Lamborghini, classic brands in the luxury car sector.
According to the manufacturer, this sports car can reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2.36 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 309.19 km/h.
To reach such speeds in such a short time, engineers have worked hard to improve aerodynamics and reduce weight. In that sense, its bodywork, made of light materials such as carbon fiber, and its rear spoiler stand out.
The price of this high-performance electric car will be 1.68 million yuan ($233,450). This is a significant change in its strategy, until now, focused on making affordable electric vehicles.
Beyond the power of the engine or the design, the Yangwang U9 stands out for being one of the few electric cars, compared to the high gasoline consumption offered by rivals such as Ferrari NV and Lamborghini, defends the brand.
It is not the last luxury electric vehicle that the Yangwang brand plans to launch. The next one will be announced later this year in China, including a luxury sedan that will cost around one million yuan.
