What started as a paddle tennis league among friends has become a company that manages three leagues, in three Spanish capitals, in which 500 couples from 200 companies participate. “In September 2017, we created a league among 32 friends and just by word of mouth we ended the season with 80 couples,” remembers Guillermo Conde Lucaya. “In view of the potential, we began to take care of reserving the courts, purchasing the balls… what was born as a hobby was growing, but the profit margin was very small,” continues Conde. The Covid pandemic gave them the opportunity to make their efforts profitable. “My brother Eduardo had the idea of ??creating an inter-company league to help companies strengthen ties between their workers in the face of the proliferation of teleworking,” explains Conde.
Under the name Business Pádel Tour, the brothers Conde Lucaya and Dani Muñoz organized the first inter-company league in February 2022, in Barcelona. “We started with 30 companies and 100 couples,” adds Guillermo Conde, who began to dedicate himself fully to the project. Then came the leagues of Madrid and Valencia. Nestlé, Ey, Dazn and Vicio are some of the companies that pay for their employees to compete against each other with the paddle, while the companies Bullpadel, Eurofunding and Pádel Nuestro have joined as sponsors. Now, thanks to an investment round of 250,000 euros contributed by a private investor, the three partners plan to exceed 800 companies in the 2024-2025 season with the creation of leagues in Seville, Malaga and Palma de Mallorca.
Based in Barcelona, ??Business Padel Tour employs four people, including Guillermo Conde, who plans to hire six more people to land in the new cities. If the co-founders’ objectives are met, the startup will finish the 2024-2025 season with a turnover of more than one million euros.
