Bus driver caught looking at the wheel at the Barcelona-Real Sociedad football match

The Sagalés company announced this Tuesday that it has applied the sanctioning regime stipulated by the company’s internal protocol to the driver of a bus who was watching a soccer match on his cell phone while driving yesterday Monday. The events occurred on the intercity bus on line 12 that left Barcelona at 8:45 p.m. in the direction of Vic, as reported by an X (formerly Twitter) user through social networks.

The tweeter published a message on The tweet was accompanied by a photo where it is clearly seen how on the screen of a mobile phone there are images of the match that at that time was being played at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, in Barcelona.

Shortly after the message was published in X, Sagalés responded through the same medium requesting more details about the incident. The passenger provided additional information, including the bus line number and departure time. In addition, he provided new evidence: in this case a video of about 30 seconds in length which clearly shows how the driver has the football game on his mobile screen.

Sagalés has announced today that, with the data provided by the X user, it has identified the driver and has applied the sanctioning regime stipulated by the company’s internal protocol. In statements to Moveo, the company has stated that “at Sagalés we do not tolerate any action or attitude on the part of our driving staff that could endanger the safety of the users who use our services.”

In addition to the disciplinary measures imposed by his own company, the driver faces an administrative penalty for violating traffic regulations and endangering the safety of passengers and other road users.

The Mossos de Esquadra have confirmed to this newspaper that, in cases like this, when evidence of serious infractions such as those reported is presented, they can act ex officio, without the need for a formal complaint by those affected. In addition, they have indicated that they can also intervene after receiving a complaint at the request of an affected person.

The infraction committed by the Sagalés driver is a clear example of distractions behind the wheel, one of the main causes of traffic accidents. The entry of the new Traffic Law in March 2022 meant the toughening of some penalties. Since then, using a cell phone while driving carries a fine of 200 euros and the withdrawal of six points from your driving license.
