BMW has begun commercial operations in our country of the second generation of the X2 and its emission-free counterpart iX2. The X2 2024 has little or nothing to do with the original X2 from 2017; neither by concept and positioning, nor by size, nor by its appearance, much rougher, more robust and aggressive in this new evolution.

With the first BMW X2, the Sports Activity Coupé vehicle concept entered the category of compact premium SUVs. It was characterized by a crossover-type aesthetic, halfway between a hatchback and an SUV, with a more emotional and attractive character than an X1 (Sports Activity Vehicle) although with slightly worse functionality.

Its commercial acceptance was very good at first (in Spain it was among the best sellers of its class), since 2018, but it soon fell back in the list of public preferences, both national and international. It cannot be said that it was a failure, but it did not meet the manufacturer’s forecasts or estimates either. With the arrival of other rivals with similar characteristics, its decline was notable in terms of sales and its production ceased at the end of 2022 with just over 200,000 units manufactured.

Now the second generation enters the scene, completely reformulated and even more distinctive, sporty and aimed at drivers with a clear predilection for dynamism, both visually and in terms of driving itself. The progressive character of the new model is also evident in the all-electric iX2 variant, as well as in a large number of digital systems, technologies and services offered by the new BMW iDrive with QuickSelect and the evolved BMW ID9 operating system. , which debuts with this model.

The new X2 is visually very expressive and aggressive, clearly differentiating itself from the current X1. The taut, sharp lines and the treatment of the surfaces, which are more angular and have marked edges, stand out. The upright front end conveys confidence and power, while its striking LED headlights and the almost hexagonal BMW grille – which for the first time in the premium compact segment can be optionally equipped with BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting – are its features. more defining.

The roof line, which flows uninterrupted to the rear, creates a slender silhouette and typically coupe proportions. At the rear, the prominently flared wheel arches and muscular shoulders stand out. The horizontal contours of the model-specific double-section taillight design also enhance its sporty accent, as do its spoiler and rear apron.

The new BMW In addition, its longer wheelbase and wider tracks benefit space both in the five seats and in the trunk. Its maximum cargo capacity is between 560 and 1,470 liters, depending on the model variant. The BMW iX2 offers between 525 and 1,400 liters.

The interior is characterized by a sporty ambience and a slender instrument panel that houses the curved BMW Curved Display. Another element that brings a touch of modernity to the cabin is the “floating” armrest with integrated control panel that BMW debuted in the Active Tourer.

For the “reinterpretation” of the X2 BMW has established a series of efficient gasoline and diesel engines associated with the standard seven-speed Steptronic transmission with dual clutch. Thus, the offer includes a 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine for the sDrive20i (€47,100), which in combination with the 48V medium hybrid system, offers a maximum power of 170 HP. The four-cylinder diesel engine in the X2 sDrive18d (€45,600) has also been extensively updated and produces a maximum power of 150 hp. At the top of the range – for the moment – ??is the most performance variant, the M35i (€71,800), with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder block that develops 300 HP.

The BMW iX2 xDrive30 (€58,000), the new full electric variant, has been part of the new range since launch. Its two integrated drive units, one on the front axle and one on the rear, together generate a power of 230 kW, equivalent to 313 HP (including temporary supercharging), and a torque of 494 Nm. The iX2 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 180 km/h. The high efficiency of its propulsion system together with the 64.8 kWh of usable energy from the high-voltage battery gives it a range in the WLTP cycle of 417 to 449 km, depending on equipment.
