Bills Bolster Safety Position with Signing of Lewis Cine

In a strategic move to strengthen their safety position, the Buffalo Bills have signed Lewis Cine to their practice squad. The 24-year-old safety, hailing from Haiti, was recently released by the Minnesota Vikings and brings a wealth of talent and potential to the Bills’ roster.

Cine, who stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs 199 pounds, was a standout player during his college career at the University of Georgia. He was selected by the Vikings as the 32nd overall pick in the 2022 draft but was unfortunately plagued by a leg injury during his rookie season. Despite this setback, Cine showed promise in the limited playing time he had, accumulating 10 defensive snaps in 10 games over two years with the Vikings.

One of the highlights of Cine’s collegiate career was his performance in Georgia’s 33-18 victory over Alabama in the national championship game during the 2021 season. His stellar play earned him defensive MVP honors and solidified his reputation as a talented and impactful player on the field.

With the Bills in need of reinforcements at the safety position following the departure of longtime starters Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde, Cine’s addition to the practice squad provides valuable depth and competition for the starting spots. Veteran Taylor Rapp has already secured one of the starting positions, leaving the other spot up for grabs as the team prepares for their season opener against Arizona on Sept. 8.

The competition for the starting safety position has been further complicated by injuries to key players such as veteran free agent addition Mike Edwards and rookie second-round pick Cole Bishop. Both players missed significant time during training camp but have since returned to practice, although their availability for the season opener remains uncertain.

In addition to signing Lewis Cine, the Bills made a move to bolster their receiving corps by adding Jalen Virgil to the practice squad. Virgil, who was recently released by the Denver Broncos, brings speed and playmaking ability to the team. The undrafted free agent spent two seasons with the Broncos but missed all of last year due to a knee injury. His addition to the practice squad adds depth and competition at the wide receiver position for the Bills.

Overall, the Bills’ recent roster moves demonstrate their commitment to building a competitive and talented team as they prepare for the upcoming season. With players like Lewis Cine and Jalen Virgil joining the practice squad, the team is poised to make a strong push for success in the 2022 season.
