A new bicycle parking lot has been launched at Barcelona Sants station with the aim of protecting these vehicles from vandalism and adverse weather conditions. However, ADIF users were quick to raise their voices as soon as they discovered that the cost of this service is 0.36 euros per hour. It was on the social network
Among the arguments why users have rejected this measure is the excessive cost that using this service would entail for a person who commutes to work by bicycle every day. Specifically, the profile named @24LV4 has done the math and estimates the cost of storing a bike in these compartments at up to 188 euros per month. This is, apparently, a counterproductive rate for those who opt for the bicycle, not only because it is a sustainable mobility vehicle, but also economical.
Another user of As highlighted by the company in a statement, this modular, closed and covered parking lot is “prepared for intensive use” and promises to “increase the capacity of the facilities” depending on demand. Likewise, next to this container, four units of the ‘inverted U’ parking model have been installed, free of charge for users.
There are also doubts about how safe these car parks are. This compartment model is called Bicihangar Rocket and has been manufactured by Don Cicleto. Access control is carried out through this company’s app, where the user can check in real time the availability of spaces throughout the parking network, reserve and manage payments.
ADIF promises to extend this service to up to 42 of its facilities throughout Spain. These bike parking spaces have their origin in a pilot experience promoted at the Madrid Chamartín Clara Campoamor station. This infrastructure network has been developed through collaboration with the UTE Ecomilla Bicipark, made up of FCC Medio Ambiente, Don Cicleto and Benito Urban, in accordance with the mobility strategy of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, according to ADIF.
