ACS wins a $2.66 billion Pentagon contract to remodel Pearl Harbor

Through a joint venture led by its subsidiary Dragados, ACS has been awarded a contract with the United States Navy valued at more than 2,830 million dollars (2,660 million euros) to remodel the Pearl Harbor naval base in Hawaii.

The company has been selected for the replacement project for Dry Dock 3 at the Pearl Harbor Hickam base, in a contract that includes additional items that, if executed, could increase the budget up to 3,417 million dollars.

The award not only stands out for its value, but also for the symbolic value of the base, which was the object of the attack by Japan in 1941, which led to the entry of the United States into World War II. It also positions the Spanish construction company among the contractors of the US Army, at a time marked by the increase in military efforts.

Dragados has been working with the US Navy since 2021, with which it has collaborated in the development of construction methods. He has now been selected for the construction of a dam to be used for the maintenance of future nuclear submarines.

This project is the first major construction contract to be awarded under an $8 billion program for shipyard improvement works in Hawaii and Washington state. Dragados will participate as one of the five teams selected by the US Navy.

The United States has become the main area of ??projects for construction companies, due in large part to the Biden Administration’s infrastructure modernization programs. ACS, Ferovial, Acciona or Sacyr are part of the Spanish companies especially interested in the country.

ACS has already been awarded three large electric car battery factory construction projects in the country for companies such as LG, Honda or Panasonic. It has done so for more than 8,000 million euros and through its most active subsidiary in the country, Turner.

62% of its income already comes from North America, a long way from Spain, where the group barely enters 6% of the total. Of its project portfolio, which is at record levels after increasing by 8% last year, up to 68,996 million euros, 53% corresponds to North America.
