A 61-year-old man has died this Wednesday in the municipality of Chiclana de la Frontera (Cádiz) after being hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle with his grandson, a child under the age of two, who has been unharmed, it has reported. Emergencies 112, service attached to the Ministry of the Presidency, Interior, Social Dialogue and Administrative Simplification of the Junta de Andalucía.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Avenida de la Diputación with Calle Nuestra Señora de los Dolores at 8:30 a.m. this Wednesday, specifically, at the pedestrian crossing next to the Aldi supermarket. Several witnesses have alerted the coordination center that a cyclist had been hit by a vehicle.

In a statement, the Chiclana City Council explained that everything points to the fact that the deceased allegedly ignored the red phase of the traffic light and was hit by a vehicle that could not avoid the collision.

According to police sources, the driver of the bicycle died on the spot and a minor who was also traveling with him was unharmed, although he was evacuated to the Puerta del Mar hospital in Cádiz to undergo a check-up. The driver involved in the accident has also been uninjured.

Local Police officers and the 061 Health Emergency Center, belonging to the Andalusian Health Service, have intervened at the scene.
