The Second Vice President and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, announced this Friday that “in a few days” her department will create “a new algorithm from the Labor Inspection to control overtime” and, above all, persecute those that are not paid.

This was stated in Valencia, during the closing ceremony of an international summit on the four-day journey, in which he stressed that reducing the “excessive” number of extra hotas is an “essential” step, if not the first, to a “necessary reorganization of working time”.

The vice president has stressed that the Active Population Survey (EPA) for the first quarter of the year reflects that every week in Spain 6.6 million weekly overtime hours and 27 million overtime hours are performed per month.

Of them, Díaz has warned, 44 percent were not paid, which represents about “2.9 million overtime hours without receiving any compensation,” he lamented. “This reality is unacceptable,” she stressed, before pointing out that, however, it is the “lowest figure since 2011.” “But I’m not going to settle,” she assured.

In addition, he has referred to the “gender gap” in overtime, because most of the overtime is done by men but “women record a greater portion of hours not worked.” “Another mysterious coincidence”, he has ironized him.
