“We have rediscovered ourselves with the game. It was the best game of the season. Even so, we have lacked to be more effective. The result is short,” analyzed Xavi Hernández after Barcelona’s hard-fought victory against Atlético de Madrid. The coach was especially happy with the performance of João Félix, undoubtedly the protagonist of the press conference after his goal against his former team in the week in which the criticism from Simeone, Griezmann or Saúl about his work at Atlético de Madrid have filled the front pages of the media.

“I think he has managed his motivation very well. It was easy to over-brake and he solved it well,” said the Portuguese. “Beyond the goal, I have seen him recovering balls, well positionally… I am very happy for him. I see him happy, making a difference,” he added.

And the celebration? “I think he wanted to demonstrate his football in a hot light. He’s human. But for us it’s good news that he’s rebellious against his former team,” he said.

Finally, asked about the future of João Félix, on loan from Atlético de Madrid, Xavi pointed out that “that is a question for the sports area. Personally I am happy. He has united the group more, he is a joker and works hard. I am delighted to have him in the team”.

The coach also regretted that the stadium recorded the worst attendance of the season with 34,568 spectators in the stands. “The cold and the schedule affect. Those who have come have helped us a lot. But we need them. Girona arrives next week,” the coach warned.
