Workers at the Bimbo factory in El Verger (Alicante) demonstrated this Saturday to “defend their jobs” and protest against the closure of the plant announced by the company. Employees will also begin a 24-hour strike next Monday and Tuesday.

The two unions that make up the works council have led the demonstration to accompany the 100 families affected by the ERE closure proposed by the company at the El Verger workplace, as reported by the worker organizations in a statement.

Specifically, from UGT they have demanded “a future for the industry in the region that maintains factories like Bimbo’s” and have criticized that the multinational that has proposed the closure of the factory, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, “is thus responding to the efforts of the workers over the years.

The mayor of El Verger, Basili Salort, also attended the demonstration to support the workers. The mobilizations will continue on Monday and Tuesday with a 24-hour strike.
