Work in forests of the Vall de Bianya to sequester carbon and encourage water to end up in aquifers

The Consorci Forestal de Catalunya and the company Olot Meats have launched a pioneering forest management initiative, to help the forests of Valle de Biany, in Garrotxa (Girona), adapt to climate change.

With company funds, a series of works are carried out on private farms with the aim of “sequestering carbon”, encouraging the production of so-called “blue water” and promoting biodiversity. All this taking into account the landscape and adapting forestry work to the needs.

On the one hand, some trees are cut down to favor the most vigorous ones and thus save water. Paths are also cleaned so that this water reaches the aquifers and dead trees are left on the ground so that some species can take advantage of them.
