The woman who cut off her partner’s penis with a knife in Sant Andreu de la Barca in May 2021 faces a ten-year prison sentence. It is the sentence that the Prosecutor’s Office requests for her once the investigation of the case is completed. Abdul, 50, and Tanya, 35, were in a romantic relationship and also worked together. The man ran two bars in the municipality, the ‘Pirata’ bar and ‘el Sibarita de la Barca’, the latter which he left in charge of his partner. Abdul was married and had his wife and children in Bangladesh. In Catalonia his partner was Tanya.
On May 31, 2023, the man closed the ‘Pirata’ bar and went to the other establishment to hand over to his partner so that he would arrive in time to catch the train to go home. However, that day, according to the prosecution’s indictment, “the accused insisted on staying at the bar and preparing dinner for both of them.” Abdul, relaxed, slumped on a sofa in the premises while the accused “came closer to him to kiss him.” According to neighbors, Abdul planned to leave for Bangladesh in a few days to visit his family. That could be the reason for the attack, according to Mossos sources. That Tanya couldn’t stand her partner returning even for a few days with his family and his wife.
Around 11:25 p.m. while the man was playing slot machines, Tanya approached him again, “hugged him from behind and began to kiss him on the neck, insisting that they have sexual relations but the man refused.” It was at that moment when the woman asked him to simply pull down her pants to give her fellatio. “You just sit down, I’m going to get on top, you don’t have any problem, I’m going to suck,” she told him according to the Prosecutor’s Office document. Finally, Abdul agreed.
The accused covered her eyes. “Don’t take it away because I’m ashamed,” she said. The woman performed oral sex on him for three or four minutes until, taking advantage of the fact that she couldn’t see anything, she took a knife and cut off his penis. Abdul began to bleed profusely. He left the bar and ran as best he could to the Local Police station which is a few meters from the premises. Behind him, Tanya followed, arguing before the police that the man had attacked her. Her testimony was destroyed by the images from the security cameras inside the bar, but Abdul was urgently admitted under the guard of the Mossos waiting for everything to be clarified.
The amputation was complete. Abdul required 153 days to recover. He was hospitalized for 39 days and disabled for 114 days. He is now waiting for a prosthesis. After rejecting the legitimate defense, the judge ordered Tanya’s admission to prison where he remained until June of this year when he was released after the maximum time of preventive detention had expired. She is accused of a crime of injuries in the form of genital mutilation. The Prosecutor’s Office also demands that the accused compensate the victim with 194,550 euros. Furthermore, the sentence, in case of conviction, must set an amount to cover the loss of quality of life, the expenses derived from the surgical operations and the income that she lost while she was unable to work.
