Why Loud Booms are Heard Across San Diego County: Explained

news-14112024-223938

Residents across San Diego County may experience loud booms in the upcoming weeks as Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton prepares for live-fire training with high explosive munitions. The training is set to begin at 6 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, and will continue periodically until Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024.

The areas most likely to be affected by these loud booms are Oceanside and Fallbrook, as they are close neighbors to Camp Pendleton. Depending on the weather conditions, the sound of the explosions may travel up to 50 miles away from the base.

If you have any concerns about the noise levels during this training period, officials at Camp Pendleton advise visiting their website or contacting the Range Operations Division Office at 725-0357 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

While the noise advisory has been issued, there is no certainty that all residents in San Diego will hear the loud booms produced during the live-fire training. Make sure to stay informed and take necessary precautions if you are sensitive to loud noises or live in close proximity to Camp Pendleton.
