Far from returning to pre-pandemic figures as some predicted, electronic commerce has continued its upward trend after the end of most restrictions. In fact, the volume of total sales “has evolved a lot” since 2020, explains business school professor Pablo Foncillas.

E-commerce continues to increase figures and so does Amazon. Data on the evolution of the sector in the United States indicate that the penetration of online sales would already be close to 22% of all retail trade, discounting the effect of products that cannot be sold online, such as fuel.

And who is the big winner of this trend? The management expert has no doubt that it is the American company run by Andy Jassy. However, he warns that behind the great discounts and adjusted prices of the e-commerce giant there is a real danger of competition, which puts neighborhood businesses in check and could materialize in the long run in a smaller variety of products and loss quality.
