Where to travel on vacation with the children… and have them have a good time? This is one of the big questions that parents usually ask when faced with the dilemma of choosing a destination. Traveling with a baby is not the same as traveling with a young minor, a teenager, or a large and varied family. The needs vary greatly depending on age and, above all, we must take into account that each child has their own concerns.
There is, however, a general consensus when considering that knowing the world helps children develop socially and emotionally, enriches their way of thinking, allows them to acquire new values ??and, ultimately, opens their minds. In other words, they are one more ingredient to help them become better people.
Combining the interests of the group is key to the success of a trip, so it is possible to have a good time with proposals, a priori, for adults adapted to minors. There is an increasing number of agencies, museums and tourist attractions that include activities aimed at children with very positive results. The reason? Plan them with them in mind.
But let’s not fool ourselves: it is evidence that minors are passionate about airplanes and their imagination has no limits when choosing a destination. This is demonstrated by a study carried out by Booking among five thousand children from six to eleven years old from various European countries, including Spain. The majority of those consulted by the portal confess that what fascinates them most about a flight is being in the sky, being able to see the clouds up close and observe the tiny cities from above. They are also passionate about two moments of flight: takeoff and landing, which they compare to a roller coaster, and the feeling of living an adventure.
When asked about their favorite destination, and without prior limitations, a majority dreams of traveling to Lapland to meet Santa Claus in person during the Christmas holidays, but there is also an important consensus when it comes to opting for Paris and Australia. Climbing the Eiffel Tower and eating the famous French cheeses, or traveling to the other end of the world to see kangaroos and koalas up close are two especially exciting motivations.
The golden sandy beaches of the Caribbean on which to play and build castles and Japan are also on the wish list of one in three children. The bullet train and interacting with robots in the country of the Rising Sun awaken the desire to fly in equal measure. And there’s still more… The survey reveals that the imagination of those surveyed has no limits. The Moon is the destination par excellence beyond planet Earth for more than 70% of the children consulted by Booking, followed by outer space.
Although the number of children traveling on a plane is low in relation to the total number of passengers, the truth is that their presence is not always welcomed by some travelers who fear having their peace of mind disturbed during the journey. This circumstance has generated a debate in recent times about the convenience or not of establishing child-free zones on aircraft.
For months now, two Asian airlines, Scoot, based in Singapore, and Malaysia’s AirAsia, have already had kid-free zones on their aircraft. They are quiet areas in the front reserved for those over 12 years old, which also offer some additional comforts. To these companies, another European company has just been added, the Turkish Corendon, which raises the age to 16 years and charges passengers who opt for these seats an extra €45 each way.
Beyond debatable controversies, there are some tips that can make a plane trip with a minor easier. Taking them into account can make a flight with children more fun and more peaceful for all passengers.
