Watch the sun set through the clouds

In these time-lapse video images that I have recorded for La Vanguardia’s Readers’ Photos we can see how the sun sets through the clouds, in Altet, in the Urgell region.

If you look at the video that summarizes the sunset in a few seconds, at first the clouds go from west to east and, at the end, they go from west to north.

Altet is a town integrated into the municipality of Tàrrega. Until 1969 it was part of the municipality of La Figuerosa, but previously it had been independent, from 1812 to 1847.

Among the heritage points of interest in Altet, the Castell de l’Ofegat also stands out, a fortress in ruins at the top of a hill, dating back to the Middle Ages, which was first documented in 1133.

The sun is at sunset when, due to the Earth’s rotation, it crosses the plane of the horizon and passes from the visible to the non-visible hemisphere. That is, when its height is zero, going from positive to negative. In the case of the sun, this determines the end of the day.
