In Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we can see this video and the photograph that show the patience of the mother marmot while her calf plays with her tail.

I have captured these images in the Berguedà. At the beginning of spring they came out of hibernation and now the pups are beginning to be big and are active and playful, as can be seen in the images.

Groundhogs are large rodents, the heaviest members of the squirrel family, with enlarged claws well adapted for digging tunnels where they winter for about seven months.

Groundhogs live in a family structure. A family can have between 10 and 20 young, which live with their parents until maturity. And they prefer an open habitat that allows them to spot predators from a distance and run for cover.

Groundhogs enjoy socializing with each other. Regardless of age, they groom and greet each other by rubbing their noses. Of course, although they are sociable with other members of the family, they tend to be very fierce against predators and other strangers that invade their territory.
