In this field on the outskirts of the town of Altet, in Urgell, I saw an antlion, but will you be able to find it?… This is the new visual challenge that I propose to you in La Vanguardia’s Readers’ Challenge.

Does it seem easy to you? Perhaps, but I would rather say that it is like finding a needle in a haystack. In any case, the rules of the game are clear. First, I am going to reproduce two photographs in which this specimen of antlion appears. And it’s about pointing out where it is.

Have you managed to find the ant lion? If you have achieved it, I congratulate you, it was not easy. And, if you haven’t done it yet, I’m going to give you some clues.

To begin with, we are not looking for an ant as we understand it, but rather that ant lions actually belong to another group of insects (Neuroptera: Myrmeleontidae). In fact, they look more like dragonflies. To help you, here you can see two photographs in detail.

The name antlion refers to the larva, which lives in sandy soils and digs a funnel-shaped hole at the bottom of which it hides, leaving only its mandibles protruding. Small insects, such as ants, fall into this pit and cannot get out because of the loose sand walls, so they are eaten by the ant lion.

Now that you have been able to find the ant lion? No? Yeah? In any case, I am going to show you the two images again, but this time I have marked the position of the insect we were looking for. It is the solution to this visual challenge.
