The newspaper ‘El Mundo’ has had access to the statement that Vinícius made before the judge, last April, for the racist insults that some Mallorca fans made to the Real Madrid player during the league match that the whites played on the past 5 February in Son Moix.
“They insult me ??because I’m an important player and I’m black, for both,” the Brazilian said by videoconference, who differentiated between racist insults, which do offend him, and the rest. In addition, Vinícius, accused of being a provocateur, assured that he did not address the rival players in a derogatory manner: “If he had insulted a teammate or the referee, they would have sent me off.”
This judicial process began thanks to the complaint filed by LaLiga and the only lawyer who was present in the statement accompanying the player was that of the Spanish football association. The complaint is ongoing and so far the Prosecutor’s Office has not made a conclusive report.
“You can’t do that with the black people who have been affected throughout the history of humanity,” added a Vinícius who does not renounce compensation and does not forgive the Mallorca partner, already expelled from the Balearic club, who shouted “you are a monkey, you’re a fucking monkey.” The Balearic fan apologized in court and even indicated that he admires the Real Madrid player.
Vinícius also ruled out that the word “monkey” did not have a racist connotation and made reference to the fact that he does “monkeys”: “That will be for white people, not black people.” The striker acknowledged that he did not notice the insults during the game, and that he was only aware when he heard the audios published on DAZN.
Despite the fact that in this case the events that occurred in Son Moix are being judged, the Brazilian considers that the hostile environment is widespread in all fields in Spain. The racist insults towards Vinícius were reproduced again in Mestalla, in the League match held on May 21.
The events that took place in Valencia, also denounced by LaLiga, had a greater impact, causing a corporate banner against racism to be displayed before the matches and motivating the reaction of the political authorities in Brazil. However, Vínicius asked to postpone his statement regarding what happened in Valencia while on vacation.
