Vilafranca del Penedès combines wines, sparkling wines and international jazz this weekend at the 16th edition of Vijazz, organized by the Acadèmia Tastavins Penedès. The music of jazz artists such as Marcus Miller, Kandace Springs and José James is harmonized, with a fair with wines and sparkling wines from Penedès. The organization, which expects to receive more than 30,000 visitors and exceed 75,000 tastings, speaks of a “luxury” edition.
One of the novelties of Vijazz Vilafranca 2023 is the New Talents Cycle, which will host the final concerts of the Barcelona Jazz Master. This year there are two new spaces: the Vioffjazz in the Vallformosa Space of the Cloister of the Trinitaris, dedicated to electronic music and attracting new audiences, and the Cicle Nous Talents in the Jaume Nicolàs Day Center, where you can enjoy concerts by students from the Higher School of Music of Catalonia.
At the Penedès wine and sparkling wine fair, which is held on Rambla Nostra Senyora, there will only be twenty wineries this year. There will be no shortage of tastings and pairings with wines and cavas from the Penedès with products such as cheeses, sausages or fruit in the Ametller Origen tasting room at Casal Societat La Principal. Pairings with Joncake cheese tarts and the flavors of DO Penedès with formats or DO Cava with Embutidos Mallart stand out. The president of the Academia Tastavins Penedès, Max Margalef, states that “Vijazz is a reference festival not only at Catalan level, but also at national and international level”.
