Veterinarian Rescues Pets During Palisades Fire, Now Caring for 40 More

In a heartwarming display of compassion and dedication, Dr. Annie Harvilicz, a veterinarian based in Southern California, has stepped up to rescue and care for pets in need during the devastating Palisades fire.

A Call for Help

It all started when Dr. Harvilicz received a call from her brother on a fateful Tuesday morning. Faced with the imminent threat of the raging fire, he needed a safe place for his beloved rabbit, Oreo, and cat, Winston. Without hesitation, Dr. Harvilicz welcomed the furry duo into her care. But she didn’t stop there. Realizing that countless other animals in the area were also in need of refuge, she took to Facebook to offer her assistance.

A Growing Crisis

Since putting out the call for help, Dr. Harvilicz has been inundated with messages and calls from pet owners desperate for assistance. What began with Oreo and Winston has now ballooned to include a menagerie of animals seeking shelter at Dr. Harvilicz’s veterinary hospitals. Currently, she is caring for approximately 20 dogs, 20 cats, and of course, the original duo, Oreo the rabbit. With the fire showing no signs of abating, Dr. Harvilicz expects these numbers to rise in the coming days.

A Helping Hand

Despite the challenges, Dr. Harvilicz remains committed to providing a safe haven for as many animals as possible. She has even opened up her own home to accommodate some of the dogs in need. Moreover, her hospitals are equipped to treat pets with injuries and provide essential supplies such as food and bedding.

A Heartfelt Plea

While Dr. Harvilicz’s efforts have been nothing short of heroic, she acknowledges the heartbreaking reality that not all animals can be saved. One particularly poignant moment involved her attempts to rescue nine donkeys left behind by a fleeing owner. Despite her best efforts, the donkeys were ultimately abandoned, leaving Dr. Harvilicz with a heavy heart.

In times of crisis, it is heartwarming to see individuals like Dr. Harvilicz go above and beyond to ensure the safety and well-being of our beloved animal companions.
