The delicate economic situation of FC Barcelona has suffered a new blow due to the non-payment of 40 million euros by Líbero Football Finance AG to the Barça club for the purchase of 10% of Barça Vision. The situation, which has pushed the entity chaired by Joan Laporta to file a lawsuit, further aggravates the financial health of the club and has caused Víctor Font and Toni Freixa, candidates for the presidency in the last elections, to publicly criticize and the operation harshly.
“There are 400 million ‘profits’ linked to this operation that can suddenly disappear. This would once again open a very large capital hole in the club and aggravate the Financial Fair Play situation. Doing this operation in a hurry, with unknown partners and without any relevant experience in the audiovisual sector, entailed these risks,” Font stressed on Twitter. “We continue to lose time, since three years after the elections and a year and a half after selling 49% of Barça Studios, no source of income generation has been built,” he added, while demanding public explanations of the club to its members.
Toni Freixa was along the same lines, also on Twitter: “This fact is very serious because 400 million of income were activated in the accounts that right now no one knows what consequences it may have. If Barça operated as a members’ club, there would be a public appearance today by those responsible for the club to be held accountable.”
