Starting this Monday, the Valencia City Council is launching a campaign coordinated by the Local Police and EMT Valencia to control and monitor the lanes reserved for buses and taxis, which will have an information phase and another with penalties of up to 300 euros.
This week the information phase begins, which will consist of notices, information on current regulations and recommendations for users of private vehicles who frequently use the bus-taxi lane; After the information week, the second phase of sanctions will be carried out, which can reach up to 300 euros, according to the current regulations.
The Councilor for Mobility, Jesús Carbonell, has pointed out that the frequent invasion of the bus-taxi lane “hinders the dynamics of a good public transport service in the city, since both minimal or prolonged parking and the frequent circulation of private vehicles that is not allowed cause traffic jams, circulatory collapses, loss of frequency and accidents.”
“The Mobility Ordinance establishes collective public transportation for travelers as the central element of urban mobility. The intervention of the Local Police is important in improving circulation in these lanes, an action that also results in the improvement of road safety and minimizes the risk of unexpected maneuvers or braking that can cause passengers to fall. found inside buses,” Carbonell highlighted.
According to the councilor, “the use of public transport and its promotion significantly reduces the use of private vehicles and helps improve people’s quality of life and preserve the environment in the city.”
For their part, the Local Police and the EMT have carried out a prior analysis of the areas of the city with the highest frequency of unauthorized occupation of the bus lane, where its use has even become chronic in certain time periods to configure the work teams that This Monday they begin the information phase, as well as to detect the points at which controls will be intensified, despite the fact that the campaign covers the lane network throughout Valencia.
The origin of this campaign arises within the municipal transport company as a result of the meetings held with the EMT Valencia union centers themselves, who have repeatedly requested that the illegal occupation of bus lanes be put to an end, since this practice has a negative impact on the daily development of drivers’ work.
