Her real name is Annie Mae Bullock, but she is better known by her stage name Tina Turner. This last year, the music legend left us and, from RockFM, she pays tribute to her as she deserves with live music from Valencia. A well-deserved tribute, precisely on the night before International Women’s Day, since she was undoubtedly one of the women who showed her courage in the face of adversity, both on a personal and professional level.
The lioness or the panther have always been two of her iconic nicknames among fans of her music. And he has even managed to collect a Guinness record after having gathered, until then, what was the largest crowd for a music star. It was in 1988 at the legendary Maracaná stadium, arriving on a carnival float dancing samba before 182,000 spectators. 80 minutes of an incredible live show, like all the live shows he always gave us.
The eight-time Grammy winner retired from the stage after her last tour in 2009. Her hits with Ike Turner and alone such as “What’s Love Got To Do With It”, “Private Dancer”, “The Best” and “River Deep – Mountain High” will always be remembered as authentic anthems and will continue to play loudly on our station. And the lioness has left an indelible mark in the world of rock and music in general, where she has always been very loved and respected.
A true reference, Tina claimed the fact of being a woman and black at a time when machismo and racism remained – even more than today – deeply rooted in society. After surviving the abuse of her husband, from whom she managed to divorce her, Turner ended up reclaiming her figure alone without ever losing an iota of the strength and determination that characterized her.
